Elin Isaksson Glass.
The Challenge
Inspired by the storied glass-making heritage of her native Sweden, Elin Isaksson Glass designs and makes beautiful hand blown and cast glass from her studio in Dunblane.
Influenced by the colour palette of the surrounding moody Scottish landscape, Elin’s designs reveal a sense of movement, capturing the inherent energy and fluidity of working with the medium.
Since 2010, bespoke commissions, B2C pieces, and glass blowing classes have helped Elin build a dedicated following, but there was a problem inhibiting further growth…
Running separate websites - one for commissions and portfolio, and another for retail - had become a real pain point. Twice the time, double the cost, and two increasingly divergent brands was a headache she could do without.
1.0 Brand Strategy
We set out to bring together seamlessly the two halves of the business while creating a distinctive, modern brand that harmonised artistic credibility with commercial imperative.
Glass blowing isn’t for the faint-hearted. It’s often fraught, usually dramatic, and it’s always dangerous. Dirt, sweat, and burns, they’re all integral, indelible marks of Elin’s lifelong dedication to her craft.
And so, we embraced the totality of the glass-making process, turning the spotlight on the artistic and physical investment embodied in each beautifully finished piece.
2.1 Brand Design (colour & type)
Aesthetically, we wanted to inhabit two antagonistic states: fire & ice.
Fire was expressed through new videography, which really captured the elemental beauty of the making process. While we brought the ice through ‘clean’ design, glass-like opacity, and a restrained Scandi-inspired colour palette.
Tying it together, was Freight, a bold, daring typeface to perfectly complement the sophisticated, premium nature of the brand.
2.2 Brand Design (identity)
We developed a new logo from scratch, finding inspiration in the simple, elegant forms of Elin’s work.
Comprising a stylised glass blowing rod and distinct script typeface echoing the signature she engraves on each piece, we created a timeless, sophisticated design for use across web and print.
3.0 Web Design
We designed the new website with three main objectives: attract commissions, increase shop conversions, and grow class bookings.
And to do it, storytelling was placed firmly at the heart of everything, instilling a sense of craftsmanship in every touchpoint. This was the common thread, woven from Elin’s hugely impressive portfolio of work all the way down to the newsletter, which we leveraged to foster a deeper appreciation among Elin’s most devoted followers.
Since launch, Elin Isaksson Glass has received several new prestigious commissions, including an awesome bespoke light installation for the Edinburgh HQ of global investment company, abrdn, and the University of Edinburgh’s prestigious Chancellor's Awards.
Glass blowing classes are wildly popular - seriously, the waitlist routinely tops 12 months - and online shop conversions continue to grow year-on-year.
So, mission accomplished? Hell yeah, but we’ll let Elin take it from here…
