The Challenge

Since 1987, Retail Management Consultants (RMC) has helped their clients navigate every major shift in the International Retail & Real Estate sectors.

RMC is powered by a platform of trusted industry peers at the peak of their game, and when decades of hard-won sector experience combines with clear-eyed vision, that’s when great things happen.

In essence, it's about connecting people intelligently. And with adaptability baked into the business model, it's an approach that has served them well over many years.

But just like their clients, time stand still for no-one, and we were tasked with creating a fresh online presence that reflected RMC’s status in the industry, whilst differentiating them from their competitors as a people-driven company.

1.0 Brand Strategy

With RMC approaching its fifth decade in business, we wanted to celebrate its rich history while confidently embracing the future.

We started by trawling the archives, unearthing many of the most consequential (and long-forgotten) project case studies which, when re-told in today's context, added real depth to their reputation as an industry pioneer.

Then we focused on the business model to stand out from the crowd. Unlike many management consultancies with their layers of management and idle hands waiting to be put to work irrespective of the problem, RMC is ultra-lean.

Quick and nimble, they overlay patient relationship-building with sharp minds and bold thinking to build the right team for the right task, wherever their clients need them.

Far from limiting, it’s a modern-age solution to an age-old problem, and our job was to flip the script, turning it into a superpower.

2.0 Brand Design (colour & type)

RMC is full of vibrant personalities and talents, and this needed to be captured in an extended colour palette (no, we've not just spent too long at Mardi Gras).

The restrained primary palette, punctuated with a punchy yellow accent, provides balance while the inherited secondary palette is thoughtfully weaved throughout to guide visitors along on service-themed journey connected by colour.

And when combined with the Neue Haas Grotesk typeface, we managed to convey clarity of thought, a modern sense of style, and a liberal dash of derring-do.

3.0 Web Design

We approached the design with two main objectives: creating a professional, modern aesthetic, and improving the user experience so potential clients could easily browse project case studies across services, sectors, and geographical regions to illustrate the breadth and depth of RMC's capabilities.

Like many business-to-business service companies, it can be challenging to tease out the outcome from action. But we could draw a dotted line by placing case studies in context of a larger, more engaging narrative and give primacy to the testimony of those most intimately involved in each project to give it some real bite.

Visually, case studies used an editorial-style layout to not only bring work to life within project confines of, but also act as a showcase for their clients and the great things they achieve. Making their clients the stars of the show is how RMC rolls, so mirroring that approach felt like the perfect fit.

So, how did we do? Well, at Qubit Creations we practice what we preach, so it’s best RMC does the talking from here…

brilliantly simple and effective ways that captured all the nuances of our business personality.

There is a saying in Retail: β€œif you don’t like change, you’re in the wrong business”.

Working with very demanding, blue-chip global clients has challenged us to evolve continuously, helping us to work smarter and embrace the ever-entwining worlds of retailing and technology. But how to tell our unique story in an authentic manner while continuing to stand out in such a crowded field?

When you’ve been in business for almost five decades, there is an awful lot of history to unpack, but Qubit Creations' approach to re-booting our entire online presence was to go back to "the why": who we are, our values, what we stand for, and our rich history and depth of experience.

They were instrumental in shaping our customer interface. Crucially, this centred upon successful outcomes - making a genuine difference to the lives, careers and fortunes of candidates and clients alike. By showcasing significant but long-forgotten projects and blending them seamlessly with contemporary client stories, we were able to both honour our past whilst firmly embracing the future.

A key feature of our new brand positioning has been our pivot away from a β€œbench strength” team of internal consultants to our new model of a coterie of trusted best-in-class advisors, allowing us to face the future with confidence and renewed ability to better solve the problems of today and tomorrow.

During this entire process, Qubit Creations exhibited tremendous patience and exceptional intuition to capture the ideas of what was needed in the project and the ability to express ideas in brilliantly simple and effective ways that captured all the nuances of our business personality.
